ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Soybean farmers in Wilton are storing their beans on farms because tariffs and China's boycott are lowering prices, and local elevators are shifting to handling corn to make up for lost revenue. Mark Jennings of Wilton Farmers Union Elevator said small cooperatives cannot sustain low volumes for more than two years, and the soybean harvest will wrap up by early November. KFYR-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Reede Construction crews said work on Highway 2 near 2nd Avenue West to improve traffic and access to Williston Square Development will be mostly finished by the end of October — weather permitting. Next year the crews will return for permanent striping and final touches. KFYR-TV
- ➤ City officials finalized a 2026 budget that cuts several first responder roles to help erase a $16 million deficit. The budget totals $195 million, raises property taxes by 3% and water and sewer rates by 5%, and directs $10 million to a new ice and turf facility + upgrades for old infrastructure. KFYR-TV
