  • Williston Parks and Recreation said the first season of Water World was a success but showed problems like lifeguard burnout and staffing challenges—officials will spend the offseason fixing these issues and winterizing the site for a late May or early June reopening next year.  KFYR-TV
  • The Williston Community Library will host its 24th Annual Tables of Contents fundraiser on September 7 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.—local residents are invited to support the library through this event.  Williston Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • Watford City Police are asking for help to locate Steven Coughlin—a missing 50-year-old man last seen in June who might be found in Williston or Minot while driving his white 1998 Ram 1500 with ND license plates 935EAY.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Due to a growing teacher shortage, the rural school in Glen Ullin is relying on international recruits to staff classes; it recruited four teachers from the Philippines and one from South Africa but remains two teachers short—forcing the school to combine kindergarten with first grade and second with third grade. This ongoing staffing challenge highlights the increasing difficulty rural schools face in attracting local educators.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Williston city officials are working to bring a new big-box retailer to town. Commissioners voted Tuesday night to create a special liquor license to attract large retailers—Mayor Howard Klug said a similar plan had brought Buffalo Wild Wings to town, though challenges like location and inflation remain.  KFYR-TV
  • The Williston Basin Military Affairs Committee will dedicate the Patriot Gate Memorial at Hillside Memory Gardens on September 11 at 4:30 p.m. to honor local veterans with two bronze statues by sculptor Sutton Betti—lighting adds a special touch to the site for reflection.  Williston Graphic
