COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Family Crisis Shelter purchased a home in Watford City to create a domestic abuse shelter—meant to house up to 15 victims after renovations—to keep them near their support groups. McKenzie County Commissioners approved funding for the renovations and the shelter will open in October.  KFYR-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 14, the Williston Police Department conducted an overnight enforcement operation at a rural party site on 84th Street West where about 75 partygoers were detained and officers issued curfew violations, minor in consumption citations, and made arrests for DUI, marijuana, and other charges — the operation was backed by multiple agencies following 18 case reports this year.  Williston Graphic
  • On June 18, the Williams County Sheriff’s Office in Williston completed 27 sex offender compliance checks—24 offenders met the rules, one did not, and two no longer lived in the county with charges to be requested for the non-compliant offender.  Williams County

  • State scientists say rising summer heat is causing toxic algae to grow in lakes, ponds and rivers — officials are testing four sites and advise residents to keep pets away if the water appears foul.  KFYR-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • North Dakota has seen no new measles cases for three weeks with the last case reported on May 28—health officials ended precautionary isolation measures on Wednesday, though the outbreak remains active in Williams County where residents are urged to get an MMR vaccine.  KFYR-TV
