CULTURE NEWS

  • Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site will host the Fort Union Rendezvous from June 12—15 with reenactors and craftsmen demonstrating 19th-century frontier life. Kids can enjoy hands-on activities on June 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the special Kids’ Day program.  Williston Graphic

EDUCATION NEWS

  • In the Williston Basin School District election, three new board members and one incumbent won seats as Jeremy Brenner, Brittany Kilgore, and Samuel Johnson each received over 870 votes. Write-in candidate Annette Sluder beat Dennis Nehring for a rural seat — the results are unofficial and will be canvassed on June 23.  KFYR-TV
  • Ella Weber, a member of the MHA nation, recently graduated from Princeton University as the first from the Three Affiliated Tribes to earn a degree there; she switched from astrophysics to focus on health and housing policy and will work in climate and conservation studies at The Wilderness Society (for the next two years).  KFYR-TV
  • Williston grad Aiden Johnson-Starkey received the B A Bison Scholarship at North Dakota State University — the award recognizes his high academic achievement.  Williston Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Williams County Vector Control District will start its citywide aerial adulticide treatment in Williston and Grenora using Imperium while a ground treatment with DeltaGard in the Trenton/Trenton Park area began last night. Officials said missions will be postponed if weather conditions are unsafe—residents must stay at least 300 feet from the trucks.  Williams County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chris Jundt, who served on the school board for nearly six years and helped merge two local districts, will attend his final meeting on June 23 to review election results—he is stepping away as the district moves forward with Superintendent Jason Germundson and the recent elementary school bond approval.  KFYR-TV
  • Voters approved an indefinite extension of the one percent sales tax used by the Williston Parks and Recreation District, with 1,148 yes votes (252 no) that will fund long-term projects including an 18-hole golf course and an ice arena. Canvassing will take place on June 23.  KFYR-TV
