CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Williston man Ian Patrick Stewart faces federal charges after he locked himself in with weapons from Fort Union Trading Post last month and threatened to harm law enforcement and damage historic artifacts—he surrendered after hours of negotiation and is accused of burglary, terrorizing, damaging federal property, and making threats. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Starting in July, four seats on the school board will be open for election as only one incumbent remains from the 2020 reorganization. Voters will choose from candidates with strong ties to education and the community — a rural seat is unopposed — as they decide the future direction of local schools. KFYR-TV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The latest drought monitor released last Thursday shows that 63.19% of the state is free of drought and only 2.34% is in severe drought—a marked improvement over previous weeks, though forecasted above normal temperatures and below normal rainfall may worsen conditions this summer. KFYR-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The ND Aeronautics Commission approved nearly $82 million in grants to support 182 projects at 61 of the state’s 89 public airports. The funds will pay for new equipment at Williston and Minot airports + upgrades at other locations to meet growing air travel demands. KFYR-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Kelby Coburn, 24, is named the new field manager for the Badlands Big Sticks after coaching as a GA at Texas State and in Texas summer leagues. The team faces the Willmar Stingers today and is set to build a competitive season. KFYR-TV
