COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Construction at Kota Ray Dam was finished on June 6 so the park reopened for day use yesterday — it had been closed since 2024 for improvements. Camping reservations will begin Monday, June 9 at 8:30 a.m. and the park now offers new amenities such as a youth pedal park and a lakeside amphitheater scheduled for concerts—the first set for July 19 with the Squid City Slingers.  Williams County

  • Williston police are seeking information on a local runaway and ask anyone with details to come forward.  Williston Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Williston Basin School District staff and board visited the Sloulin Elementary construction site yesterday. Construction began last October—officials say it will finish in July to serve up to 600 kindergarten to grade 5 students and help ease overcrowding.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Williston Commission appointed law enforcement veteran Steven Gutknecht as the new Chief of Police (he brings years of experience) to lead the department.  Williston Herald
  • Williston residents will vote Tuesday in the ARC board room from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on whether to extend the park district’s one percent sales tax that funds parks and recreation—Executive Director Joe Barsh said the measure captures transient dollars and prevents shifting to property taxes that could delay plans to expand the golf course and build an ice skating facility.  KFYR-TV
  • The Legislative Council recommended Gov. Kelly Armstrong call a special session to reverse his accidental veto of $35 million in housing funds—Armstrong is waiting on Attorney General Drew Wrigley's advice before deciding.  KFYR-TV
  • The Williams County Vector Control District is spraying adulticide treatments from June 6 to June 9 in Williston at Spray Block 8 with work scheduled near sunset if weather permits. They use Zenivex E20, an EPA-approved product with Etofenprox, and residents should stay at least 300 feet away — the required safe distance.  Williams County
