  • Miller Dough, an artisan bakery offering sourdough + pastries and live piano music, will open in the Great Northern Building downtown this June if construction stays on track; owner Heather Miller Bateman plans to create a welcoming space for locals to relax and enjoy guilt-free treats.  KFYR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fort Buford will host the 6th Infantry Living History Encampment and flag raising on May 23-24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fort Buford State Historic Site, featuring free demonstrations that honor soldiers and mark the tourism season plus the 150th anniversary of the Battle of the Little Bighorn.  Williston Herald

ECONOMY NEWS

  • North Dakota leaders unveiled a plan to improve oil recovery from the Bakken using enhanced techniques, CO₂, and $36 million from the Department of Energy as part of the Crack the Code 2.0 initiative. Pilot projects in state oil fields may begin late this year or early next year to potentially increase recovery rates.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carmen Simone was installed as the 12th president of Lake Region State College on May 7 in Devils Lake (she served as interim president since mid-2025) and plans to boost student development and explore new credentials at the nearly 2,000-student campus.  Williston Herald
