- ➤ North Dakota lawmakers passed House Bill 1298 to raise the interstate speed limit to 80 mph and change the speeding fine system; the Senate approved and sent the bill to the governor. If signed, the updates—including variable speed limits for different conditions and increased fines in school and construction zones—will take effect on Aug 1 (legislators believe the changes will help law enforcement manage speeding better).
