GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers agreed this morning on a 2.5% yearly increase for school district per-pupil funding—tight budgets led to a lower rate than the three percent most state departments use. The new formula will affect teacher pay and operational expenses and the bill could be ready for a floor vote tonight.  KFYR-TV
  • The City of Williston will host its State of the City Address on May 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Old Armory on 1st Avenue East, where Mayor Howard Klug and guests will review past achievements and discuss upcoming projects—free lunch is offered and limited seating is available with livestream options on Facebook and 660 KEYZ.  Williston Graphic
  • Representatives said the new Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic in Williston opened Wednesday to serve local veterans — the center will offer needed outpatient care and support for those who have served.  Williston Herald
  • Senators rejected the Attorney General’s budget bill on May 1, forcing lawmakers to rewrite it because of concerns about the 24/7 sobriety program and the plan to add an employee for a trust fund—leaving the vaping registry removed from the bill. The House approved the bill two days earlier.  KFYR-TV
