ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rain on Monday brought over an inch to Williston, Bismarck, and Jamestown, which helped local producers begin planting after a dry spell. Some ranchers worry about erosion in wildfire-affected areas if new vegetation does not quickly grow (said an agriculture extension agent).  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Veterans from North Dakota flew to Washington, D.C. on April 28th on the Western ND Honor Flight and met with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum — Rep. Julie Fedorchak also spoke with the group.  KFYR-TV
  • A bill that would have set when term limits start was killed in the House Monday morning with a vote of 61—28. Lawmakers remain split on whether term limits should have begun on Election Day 2022 or on Jan. 1, 2023 and plan to revisit the issue before term limits take effect in 2026.  KFYR-TV
  • Governor Kelly Armstrong vetoed a bill on Monday that would have expanded state employees' health benefits without raising premiums. The proposal passed the House & Senate, but Armstrong maintained that the current plan better supports recruitment and retention.  KFYR-TV
  • The Williston Police Department will host a public impound auction on Saturday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. at 921 6th St E—bidders must remove any purchased vehicles by May 23 to avoid extra storage fees.  Williston Graphic
  • Williston Mayor Howard Klug supported Senate Bill 2323 as the legislature approved the measure to shift funds from the Strategic Investment and Improvements Fund; the bill will deliver $10.5 million each year from the gross production tax share with a 70—20—10 split among Williston, Dickinson and Minot to offer debt relief for infrastructure built during the last oil boom.  KFYR-TV
