Good morning, Williston.
🚨 Crime
A Northwest District Court judge dismissed a charge against Shane Randall, who was arrested in February for saying he was an ICE officer at Williams County Correctional Facility—a review showed that moving forward was not viable and his lawyer called it a mistake.
📰 Economy
North Dakota soybean farmers felt stress after news broke last Friday that China raised tariffs on U.S. soybeans from 84% to 125%.
They export about 50% of soybeans to China and say that unresolved trade issues may hurt prices and limit investments—legislators are discussing plans to diversify markets, but changes could take years.
🏛️ Government
Members of the North Dakota House passed a bill by a 56-34 vote that stops the ND Game and Fish Department from limiting baiting of big game animals on private lands when chronic wasting disease is present.
The bill now goes to Governor Kelly Armstrong’s desk.
