Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 11th of April.
Good morning, Williston.
🏘️ Community
Reo Boston, principal at Wilkinson Elementary, is running for 24 hours on the school’s outdoor track to raise funds for a new playground that will fix drainage problems and update old equipment.
His run ends today at 2 p.m. as community members can support his effort by pledging money per mile run.
🚧 Accidents
Crews responded to a grass fire near Des Lacs on April 10th that burned a couple of acres and destroyed two to three structures—no one was hurt as teams from Minot Rural and Berthold worked to contain the blaze ahead of expected winds.
🏛️ Government
The Social Security Administration announced that starting April 14 claims can be completed over the phone instead of requiring in-person visits.
The AARP ND said earlier plans would have forced 13,000 people to travel 180 miles from the nearest office—potentially leading to long wait times.
ND's Department of Transportation said about 66% of residents already have secure Real IDs ahead of the May 7 air travel deadline, and office lines are growing as citizens come to renew or check their current IDs—if a star is visible, no update is needed.
Officials added that making appointments and completing pre-applications online can help speed up the process—reducing wait times.
